Voice of Mandingo website has confirmed report that ONYMA President-elect, Hon. Layee Sirleaf, is set to be inaugurated on Saturday, November 26, 2011, in New York City. The newly-inaugurated leaders of FELMAUSA, chapter leaders, prominent members of the Liberian Mandingo Community and hundreds of concerned friends are expected to bless the ceremony. Hon. Sirleaf was overwhelmingly elected President of ONYMA fall of this year and is reported to be the change ONYMA badly needed.

U.S. restores benefits for Ivory Coast, Guinea, Niger

President Barack Obama said Tuesday the United States would once again waive import duties on goods made in the Ivory Coast, Guinea and Niger after the countries held free and fair democratic elections. Obama issued a proclamation restoring benefits for the three countries under African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), which was signed into law in 2000. "Today's announcement is the result of rigorous review by the Obama Administration to determine whether Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Guinea, and Niger have made progress in meeting AGOA's eligibility criteria," Trade Representative Ron Kirk said in a statement. But as a metaphor, it's a fine summary of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf's central pitch for Liberia's Oct. 11 general election: that she is clever (like a monkey) and just needs more time to complete her revival of Liberia and that her 15 rivals are inept (like baboons) and should have the patience to wait until the next election to run for President. The president of FELMAUSA, Hon. Mohamed S. Bility, has again congratulated members of the federation for their full participation in the just ended inaugural event held in Philadelphia, PA. In a press release issued last night, the President extended his profound thanks and gratitude to the chairman of the Inaugural Committee, Parain, Marain, distinguished invitees, and the women group of LIMAP.Meanwhile, President Bility is urging all FELMAUSANS to remain patient while the issues with the federation’s website are being resolved. He encourages the general public to visit independent community websites and the listserv for FELMAUSA-related updates, but advised that communication intended for the leadership must be sent through the Secretary General.
District #2 Representative– Elect (Hon. Sekou S. Kanneh) Identifies with Victims of armed robberies

On Thursday of last week, the wave of armed-robberies was concentrated in a large, but quite community called Nickley Town in Montserrado District # 2, where five separate homes were targeted and victimized. The homes, mostly inhabited by women and the elderly, were broken into in an unconfirmed 20 minutes interval between each attack, as residents cried for help in vain. Reports say while the victims screamed or clamored for help everyone other community residents were busy hiding themselves or seeking for self-preservation amid the chaos. Read detail

The National Muslim Council of Liberia (NMCL) says the holding of elections is not a warfare between political parties, but a constitutionally given right to all citizens to elect a president and lawmakers for the political sub-divisions, which “requires not only unity of purpose and action by all well-meaning Liberians, but sober reflection and objective analysis of the need of the country.” A news release from the Council says in the aftermath of elections, the total happiness of the Liberian people.
