WHAT NEXT FOR THE LIBERIAN MANDINGOES? By: Sekou Kenneh-Opinion Leader, MN November 12, 2009 Over
the past years, as we continue to gaze the way politic is being played
today, it has become apparent that the modern politic is no longer a
question of qualification or political superiority. It's all about
electabilities and what they called "A QUID PRO QUO or TIT FOR TAT".
Metaphorically, "a trade-deal".Therefore, as dynamic as politic becomes, it is about time for us to consider opening ourselves to change our (M.O) modus operandi with respect to Liberian politics. I think it will be politically expedient for us the Liberian Mandingoes to second guess ourselves and see the need for us to transform our methods of persuading our political objectives. We must acknowledge the fact that no one will protect our interests, but ourselves. The question remains, what are the methodologies that need to be followed that may produce a fruitful result? In my view, our elites and those who claimed to be "political-scientists" including those who are government officials haven't done enough to resolve our LAND DISPUTE and other burning issues affecting our people in Nimba County and other areas in Liberia. Although, we have all the AA, MA, and PHD holders, yet we are unable to retrieve our Lands that were illegally snatched by some unscrupulous elements in Nimba and other areas in Liberia. It's also unfortunate, that we haven't been able to pressurize the Liberian government to stop mounting the ANTI-MANDINGO/MUSLIM check-points against our people. Those check-points are purposely designed to intimidate, harass and abstract money from our people, and that is not strange to any Liberian Mandingo. Moving forward, as we eagerly await the 2011 GENERAL-ELECTION in Liberia, my suggestions to the Liberian Mandingo community are as follow; First, we must work collectively as Liberian Mandingoes to eradicate the perception of being a puppet or blind loyalist to a particular individual or party. Second, our aim and objective of supporting any politician must be fairly and clearly base on what we will get in return as a community. Third, before we commit ourselves to any person or party, we must cautiously examine the candidates with respect to their chances of winning regardless of their ethnicity, religious or party affiliation. We must demand the politician to get what we deserve, if they want our votes. We must also encourage all of our people to be involved in exercising our birth rights, by getting out and vote for our candidate that will live by the constitution of Liberia and treat all Liberians as one people. A candidate that will want to treat tribalism as hate crime in Liberia. A candidate that will have respect for human right and the rules of law. ET It's often said that" We don't have permanent friend but, rather a permanent interest". Our permanent interest is the welfare of the Mandingo community, which will enable us to contribute to the rebuilding of Mama-Liberia. Sekou Kenneh, Opinion Leader MN.
