The Mandingo Question in
Liberian History and the
Prospect for Peace in
Liberia; PART I
By: Flomo Y.

26 May, 2010
Ethnic
tension in Liberia had been
nonexistent or at least
dormant until Samuel K. Doe
assumed the presidency.
Doe’s Government was
dominated by his kinsmen,
the Krahns, and manifestly
supported by the Mandingo
tribe. Perhaps as a
consequence of the rivalry
between president Doe and
Thomas Quinworkpa, the two
remaining strong men of the
then People’s Redemption
Council (PRC) which toppled
the status quo of the True
Whig Party, the Civil War,
waged by the National
Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL)
under the leadership of
Charles Ghankay Taylor, was
conducted initially on
tribal lines.

As 2011 elections approach,
what are we doing as
Liberian Mandingoes towards
the prospects of our
community politically?
By: Sekou Kenneh,
Opinion leader MN
22 May, 2010
The
overwhelming growing numbers
of intellectuals within our
community give us reasons to
believe that our community
is capable of producing an
actionable leadership that
can positively impact the
Liberian Mandingos and the
Liberian community at large,
both in Liberia and around
the world.
But the million dollars
question is, HOW DO WE MAKE
THIS POSSIBLE AND WHEN? My
answer to these questions is
as simple as A.B.C; (A)
AIMS; In my view, if our
AIMS and objectives can be
unequivocally presented, and
we remain unconfined and
unimpeded by
self-righteousness,
greediness and selfishness,
we would be able to engender
a productive leadership that
we envision as Liberian
Mandingoes.

HIV-Positive Liberians Fight
Workplace Discrimination

HIV-positive people in
Liberia say they are being
discriminated against in the
workplace. AIDS counselors
say that is adding to
depression and isolation. In
a country where official
unemployment tops 80
percent, it is hard for
anyone in Liberia to find a
job. But people who are
HIV-positive say it is even
more difficult for them
because many employers
refuse to hire people who
have the virus that causes
AIDS.

Guinea's Political Parties
Debate Deposit to Run in
Next Month's Presidential
Poll
Courtesy: VOA
15 May, 2010
Political
parties in Guinea are
concerned that the high cost
of a proposed candidate
registration deposit for
next month's presidential
elections may exclude some
candidates.
Guinea's independent
electoral commission met
with political parties this
week to debate a proposed
$150,000 registration
deposit for candidates to
run in the presidential poll
planned for June 27. After
the election, the deposit is
typically returned to
candidates who receive at
least five percent of the
vote, but some in Guinea are
concerned that the proposed
amount is too expensive and
will exclude smaller,
less-moneyed political
parties from the race.
