FELMAUSA
RECEIVES UTRA SOUND MACHINE FROM UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA By: Phamolie Morris Kromah 15 March, 2010 On Friday March 12, 2010, the Medical Director of the Eco Lab at the University Of Pennsylvania, Dr. Meryl Cohen, donated an ultra sound machine worth close to 150,000.00 to FELMAUSA as part of the University’s contribution to FELMAUSA healthcare initiative. Receiving the equipment, the FELMAUSA executives expressed profound gratitude for this opportunity. In addition, Hon. Dukuly assured the hospital that FEMAUSA will use the equipment wisely to address the urgent health conditions of the many Liberians suffering from heart-related problems, such as heart failure, irregular heart beat and high blood pressures – among others. In response, the director stated that her department is grateful for the opportunity to play such an integral role in improving the healthcare of those Liberians in need. Furthermore, she reassured her department’s commitment to be all of FELMAUSA’s healthcare initiatives at all times. Also present at the donation ceremony was Mr. Patrick Coon who is the Program Director of the Eco Lab. In the same development, the V.P. for Operations, Hon. Joseph Sackor, has initiated the preliminary negotiations for the hospital to help FELMAUSA plan and implement health fairs in the U.S. meant to educate African immigrants specifically women as to how to prevent health conditions that disproportionately affect this population, such as kidney failure, high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and sexually transmitted infections – just to name a few. Hon. Sackor communicated to the doctors the urgent need for basic medical supplies, such as stethoscopes, bandages, gloves, scrubs, microscopes x-ray machines, ultra sound machines, CAT scan machines, etc. Additionally, this diligent VPO informed the hospital officials that FELMAUSA is currently planning a medical mission trip to Liberia in December 2010, and would definitely appreciate any and all form of assistance from the hospital. According to Hon. Sackor, the decade plus Liberian civil strife has left the health care system of Liberia in total ruins, and henceforth, in dying need of resuscitation. He, therefore, asked the hospital to help FELMAUSA plan and implement a medical mission trip to Liberia from December 24-31, 2010, and conduct healthcare workshops and trainings to educate local nurses and physicians on up-to-date technological advancements in the medical field. |
