Press Release Forum for the Protection of Democracy Amagachie Community, Pennsville Sekou Kanneh Donates Generator to a Pro-democracy Group By: Nvasekie N. Konneh June 21, 2010 A
prominent business man and aspiring candidate for the representative
seat of District #7, Sekou Kanneh, has donated a 2.5 KV generator to a
pro-democracy group Forum for the Protection of Democracy at Amagachie
in Paynesville. Mr. Kanneh made the presentation on Thursday, June 17,
2010 at the group’s hatai base in the same area. During the brief
ceremony at which time the generator was presented, Mr. Kanneh said he
had come to identify with the young people who make up the membership of
the group in the community and show his support for their coming
together in the interest of the community. He admonished the youths to
be serious and focused on the up-liftment of the community. He promised
that as a community leader, he is committed to helping the capacity
building initiative in the community through academic scholarships and
skill training. He said that as an entrepreneur, he believes in the
young people many of whom he has employed at his company, Don-Kan which
operate 11 filling stations around Monrovia as well as several stations
outside of the capital. This, according to Mr. Kanneh is his way of
economically empowering the youths. He said when he talks about youth
empowerment, he’s not just making empty statement “politicians” are
noted for. “The fact that we have more than 100 young people employed in
our company is an indication that when we talk about youth empowerment
we are not just talking rhetoric, we seriously mean it. We have solid
statistic to back up what we say we are going to do for the people in
our community.”He went on to say that Liberia needs “all of us and we must train and be ready to serve our country in various capacities and the only way we can do that is to be educated or undergo some skill training.” He told the enthusiastic youth group that “we are living in the advanced world and those who are prepared educationally or professionally are the people that will fit in.” In response to the philanthropic gesture of the business man and aspiring candidate for the District #7 representative seat, the pro-democracy youth group expressed its appreciation and thanked Mr. Kanneh for identifying with them. Their spokesman, Mike Jabateh, said that the fact that Mr. Kanneh would find time within his busy schedule to stop by at their place is “good enough.” He said there are many people who have found success and never come back to their community. As such, he said “those who find the way to come and mingle with us in our community are the people we must support.” He said they will do their part in spreading Mr. Kanneh’s message of youth empowerment through economic programs. The brief program ended on the high note of enthusiasm as everyone of the Forum for the Protection of Democracy were coming to shake hands with Mr. Kanneh as a way of showing their appreciation for the donated item. They hope this will not be his only time of coming and hope his coming to the group is not just political but intended to solidify community cohesiveness and development. |
