Who Are They? Judges or Pastors?
By: Bangalee Trawally
15 July, 2010
It is interesting to note that people considered to be peace brokers have now become judges in their own rights. Of late, the Liberian Clergymen of Minnesota operating under the name the Liberian Ministerial Association (LMA) decide to probe into the long standing dispute between OLM’s discharged Chairman John Tarley and the Board of OLM, and thereby making sweeping statements to satisfy their desires.

It’s my understanding that LMA has paid deaf ears to the constitution that governs the organization, but rendered judgment based on fallacies, and what they believe should be done. This is like a Supreme Court judges legislating from the bend instead of coming down with their verdict based on the law (constitution). This is unfortunate that men of God will behave as such.

What is most astonishing to me is that they are threatening and bullying the board to accept Tarley as chairman or else they will tell their church followers to boycott all of OLM’s functions. I wonder if that is the solution to the problem. Nevertheless, let me hasten to tell these brothers to be mindful of their deeds. First of all, they were not there when we elected Tarley as chairman nor they ever influenced us to elect anyone of our officers on the board. They can only persuade me but not to mandate or intimidate me to do their will. I am saying this to say that no one can choose our leader(s) for us. It’s only us and no one else, period. And let me be cleared with this: I will never sit on a table with Tarley as chairman of this board to discuss anything as long as I am a member of this board.

I recall very well when we called the Liberian community, including the perceived Tarley created CIC to discuss this issue as to why we, members of the board took this decision to remove Tarley as our chairman of the Board of OLM. In the process, many suggestions were made, one of which was to involve the council of churches leaders that comprise the LMA. I made it cleared right there that if we are to invite men of God who will bring their persuasive words of God to amicably resolve this matter at hand, then it should comprise of the inter-faith spirituous leaders instead.

Since this was not adhere to, then let me say here that I do not recognize the LMA as a peace brokers but rather part of the conflict given their position in this matter. We understand that operation “white envelope” has been launched in this endeavor. In fact, Pastor Josef Howard is quoted as saying, “I will use his power to sit Tarley as Chairman of OLM’ Board or remove the entire board and take over; I did it in Rhode Island and I will also do it here again in Minnesota ”. Bring it on brother this is Minnesota . Let them be reminded that they do not control every Liberians in Minnesota , let alone their church members. They will begin to meet resistance in your various churches if they choose to take this route. We all have friends and relatives in your churches and else where in Minnesota . Think about that.

Thanks,
