The Life and Death of Alihadje Musa Konneh
By: Fofin Konneh
July 21, 2009
The Konneh family regrets to announce the passing away of their father, uncle, brother, and grandfather, Alihadje Musa Konneh of Jacob Town, Monrovia, Liberia. Alihadje Musa passed away at his residence on Friday, July 17, 2009.

The late Alihadje Musa was born in Tchen, Grand Gedeh County in 1930. He went to Guinea, as a young boy, to go to the Koranic School and later returned to make business between Liberia and the neighboring African Countries of Ivory Coast, Guinea, Mali, Borkina Faso, Niger, etc. He settled in Bahn, Nimba County in the early 1960s to do Diamond business and later moved together with his friends (The late Hon Musa Gboni Kamara, Sekou Bility and otheres)  to Monrovia and then to Bomi Hills, Bomi County where he lived for  most of his life.

Throughout his life, Alihadje Musa stood up to be one of the most committed and influential persons in defense of Islam and the Mandingo Culture. His love for the Islamic Religion drew him very closed to the late Alihadje Ansumana Dukuly of Quardugboni, who became one of the most influential Islamic scholars of our time. Owing to their shared vision for Islam, Alihadje Musa sponsored Alihadje Ansumana and himself to go to the Hajj in Mecca in 1976. An account of the same shared vision, Alihadje Ansumana assisted Alihadje Musa to marry two women from Tusu and Bakedou in Koadu-Gboni Chiefdom (Now District). The two also joined, out of the shared vision, to establish the town called “Amiena” in the District.

The late Alihadje Musa, those who knew him will attest; never hid his face as far as defending the cause of the Mandingo is concerned. He was one if not the first elders to return to Bomi Hills when ULIMO lunched the onslaught on NPFL for the return of the Mandingo people after they fled the country an account of the atrocities that the NPFL metted against them during their invasion of the nation in 1990. The late Alihadje Musa stayed in Bomi Hills and served as the father for all the liberators (both Khran and Mandingo) until “the restoration of nationhood to man” was achieved.

He was buried in Monrovia on Friday, July 17, in accordance with the Islamic tradition with all the Mandingo Heroes of our time( Including Alihaje GV Kromah, Sheik Khafumba Konneh) paying their  respect to the falling hero.

The Konneh family in the Unites States will be holding the seven day feast for our late father on Sunday, July 26, 2009 at the home of his son, Mamade M. Konneh, in Chicago, IL. The entire Mandingo Community in the United States is invited for the prayer service for our father, the late Alihadje Musa Konneh. May Allah forgive him and give his “Alijannet”.
