Bility Challenges Wesley for LFA
Presidency Courtesy: Liberian Observer 25 January, 2010 MONROVIA
– The president of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), Cllr. Izetta
Sombo Wesley, according to a source close to her office, has reportedly
laughed off the recent statement made by a member of the Executive
Committee, Musa Bility. The source quoted Wesley as saying that a 28-day event of sports hostility at the country level ‘can never be compared’ to the running of a national federation for four years. Wesley, according to the source, has developed and promoted the game of football as evidenced by refurbishing of the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS), the local and international training of coaches, referees, amongst others. “Izetta wants to admonish stakeholders come March 20, 2010, for the continued development and promotion of the game, they should vote for her instead of someone new to the game. “It is better to be with the devil you know than the angel you don’t know,” the source stated. Bility recently announced his intention to contest the LFA presidency at the upcoming elections in order to promote and develop the game of football in the country. Having led Nimba County to victory in the 2009/2010 National County Meet, Bility is of the conviction that he can shepherd the LFA. Bility declared his intention to run for the post of president of the local football house on Monday, January 18. He says he has already held lengthy discussions with partners and has vowed to redeem football from the ‘doldrums.’ “Those who doubted our ability to bring about change at the level of the Liberian Football got their answer when we led Nimba County to clinch the double (football and kickball) championships for the 2009/2010 National County sports meet,” Bility maintained. “Our intention, when given the opportunity, will lead us to change the direction of football from its present stage, where it is sitting down and receives money from FIFA and other partners,” he said. If elected, Bility maintained, his administration will manage the LFA as an economically vibrant organization that will be geared towards developing and supporting programs involving business-minded people. Meanwhile, results from a three-hour consultative meeting, which brought together representatives from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC), the Liberia Football Association (LFA) and aggrieved football clubs report that all parties have agreed to hold the general elections on March 20, 2010. According to the secretariat, three persons have so far applied and or expressed their interest in contesting the forthcoming elections for various positions. Incumbent Vice Presidents for Administration, Pennoh Bestman, Adolph Lawrence, are vying for operations positions and Musa Bility for the presidency of the LFA. |
