Ganta Youths Raise Concern On Land
Issue Courtesy:Inquirer News 10 February, 2010 The
Bible says that a wise man changes, meaning that it could even better
his condition. This biblical saying is soberly reflected by a group of
Youths of Ganta, Nimba County who have been faced with serious
challenges in that part of Liberia to repossess their properties which
they acquired legally from the government of Liberia.According to
reports gathered from the youths following a mass meeting held in
Monrovia recently at Mr. Sekou M. Donzo's residence, the youths said
they arrived at a three-count resolution on how best to engage the
government of Liberia and other stakeholders for an amicable solution in
reclaiming their properties in Ganta.According to the resolution they stressed massive public awareness, engage national government for her failure to address itself to the plight of “GANTA MANDINGOES” including their properties and to officially inform the International Community and most importantly the US Embassy in Monrovia and other interested parties. Meanwhile, a visiting Ganta youth from the United States of America, Mr. Bangalee Trawally has expressed serious reservation over the prolonged delay by the government to turn over their properties despite several interventions. In a serious mood, Trawally lamented that since the issue of their properties had been politicized the youths have vowed to do anything it takes to reclaim their properties. He further indicated that they would do every thing possible to alert the international Community as well as the International Contact Group on Liberia (ICGL), African Union (AU) and ECOWAS among others to vent their anger against the government of Liberia's inability to settle the matter once and for all. Mr. Trawally further stated that at the moment his pronouncement about the delay in reclaiming their properties is no scared play because according to him Ganta is on a time bomb noting that if it explodes it might likely spread beyond Ganta. He added that upon his return to the USA shortly he will take the message to other brothers there in a bid for them to take similar action to pressurize the government while in the United States. In a related development reports have it that a mass meeting will be held this Sunday at one of its staunch member's residence. It can be recalled that sometime ago President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf set up a special committee to look into the land case in order to arrive at a peaceful settlement but to date reports have it that nothing substantial has happened. |
