BRACING FOR THE INTELLECTUAL
BATTLE- THE WAY FORWARD.

Revolution
of any kind does not occur in a vacuum. There has to be a
cause or multiple causes to start one. And once it begun, it
becomes difficult to contain it without a robust and/or
adequate redress. French and the Russians revolutions and
most recently the so called “Arab Spring” are all
categorized as instruments for change. When brutality and
vandalism became the order of the day, it took certain brave
men and women to defend the cause of freedom thereby
emancipating themselves from the bondage of brutal rule and
deprivation to that of self esteem. While the details of
these revolutions and how they impacted, and continue to
impact the lives of the people concerned remains debatable,
no one can deny the fact that it took men and women of
courage to rise up and say enough is enough.
I have deliberately used these examples to illustrate a
point that no man will continue to be a subject of
humiliation and deprivation all the times without he or she
standing up one day to resist and call for a change in the
status quo. This is why Liberians went to war to defend
themselves against tyranny and despotism. Today, Liberians
irrespective of the frigidity of the democratic
dispensation, its citizens are proud that the country is no
longer looked down upon by other civilized nations. On the
other hand, tribal bigotry remains inevitably a continued
and systemic problem that inundate the fabric of our very
co-existence.
For far too long, members of the
Mandingo tribe have being victims of subversive and
distasteful injustices.
§
In november 1985 Mandingoes were
indiscriminately gunned down.
§
In December 1989 Mandingoes were victims of
genocide in Lofa, Nimba, Margibi and Bong. Their only crime
for their deaths was because they were Mandingoes.
§
Insignificant check points mounted across the
Liberian lanscape targeted at Mandingo traders.
§
Immigration officers strategically using their
positions to harrass innocent Mandingo businessmen.
Now that the guns have gone silent,
some have chosen an intellectual warfare to disenfranchise
an entire tribe in our national political discourse. In
recent times, we came across some unpalatable propositions
put forward by some ethnic bigots masquerading as
journalists but whose identities are already on our radar,
preaching ethnic hatred in the name of “public interest”.
But the haters have not gone unchecked.
Thanks to the solidarity shown by some
of our brothers for intellectually destroying all the false
assertions and reasoning put up against Amara Konneh’s
confirmation . “ Where courage and determination exist,
failure cannot dismantle the flag of success.” Gone are
the days when we sat supinely while our professionals were
challenged unjustly by descendants of Ivory Coast, Guinea,
Sierra Leone, Sudan, Lebanon, Nigeria and America. The
arrogant quest to keep Mandingoes alienated in Liberia as if
nothing was at stake will always be something of the past.
We will not relent to repel any undue verbal or written
attack waged on our people by these social misfits calling
themselves Liberians.
It is an indisputable fact that Min.
Amara Konneh is the most productive minister in Pres.
Sirleaf administration. His success in 4yrs as a minister
surpasses every minister under President Sirleaf first 6yrs.
Given his performance, resilience to corruption, nepotism
and persistence to move Pres. Sirleaf development agenda
forward, some political hypocrites in Monrovia have masked
themselves under pseudo names in an effortless battle to
taint Min. Konneh as a foreigner and/or nepotistic.
As the cynics maliciously develop their
devilish tactics to slow Min. Konneh rapid success, he
continues to unravel new plans to change Liberia for the
better. He continues to break new grounds as his
responsibility continues to increase.
In conclusion, let me encourage our
brothers and sisters in the Diaspora and back home to brace
themselves for the intellectual warfare that is being waged
like a tsunami against us. For our collective accomplishment
will for always be a success story for our community and
Liberia at large. I beseech you to rise above the fray of
personal and political indifferences and join the battle to
claim our rightful place in Liberia.
As you may know, Liberia will NEVER be
Liberia without the Mandingo tribe. Our forefathers played a
significant role in what is today Liberia and no one will
alter the history of our common patrimony for self
significance or delete the Mandingo tribe from the 16 tribes
of Liberia. Unless history can be alterred, our role in that
country will be endless.
With no threat, let me point out that we
are ready, and by this i mean those of us who find it
expedient to speak out when ever it goes wrong no matter the
repercussion or who is involved. We shall clear the air
when ever the truth is being tainted by falsehood as
witnessed in an emotional outburst by one ghost called LEE
H. Williams and propagated by a team of refracts and quasi
journalists at the AFRICAN STANDARD.
