Liberian soccer star dies homeless

George McDonald Sacko, a star on the Liberian national soccer team in the 1950s and 1960s, died homeless in Newark, N.J., months ago. His death was first announced in a brief legal notice seeking information on his next of kin, The Star-Ledger of Newark reported. Saint Michael's Medical Center placed the notice after Sacko died of natural causes at the hospital on Sept. 17. Read detail

Liberia's Minister of Internal Affairs (MIA) Harrison Sam Karnwea says about Seven Hundred Thousand United State Dollars ($700,000) is now needed to complete the provision of the peace packages in Bahn and Ganta cities in Nimba County. The amount is balance payment in settling land dispute between tribal people of Nimba County, which has already begun some months ago. Min. Former House Speaker Calls For Constitutional Amendment

One time House Speaker of the defunct National Transitional Legislative Assemble (NTLA), Morris Dukuly, has called for an amendment of the Liberian constitutional seeking the reduction of presidential and legislative tenures.
The former transitional lawmaker declared that it would be prudent at this time for presidential tenure to be reduced from 6 to 4 years, while representatives and senatorial tenures be reduced to 4 and 6 years respectively. He believes such reduction in tenure would develop what he called a new dynamism in the country’s growing democracy.Read detail

Reports from Grand Bassa County say officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) assigned on the Monrovia-Buchanan highway remain unabated in harassing extorting commercial drivers and business people. THE HAGUE (AFP) - Laurent Gbagbo, Ivory Coast's former leader, was flown into the Netherlands Wednesday to be handed over to the International Criminal Court for trial over post-election violence that cost 3,000 lives. A plane carrying the former president landed at Rotterdam airport a little before 4:00 am (0300 GMT), ANP reported.
From there, Gbagbo was to be taken to the ICC detention facilities in The Hague, 20 kilometres (12 miles) away.Gbagbo, 66, was only informed of his transfer on Tuesday when he was served an international arrest warrant from the ICC, Jean Gbougnon, one of his lawyers in Ivory Coast, told AFP. As Election draws closer, Mandingo Nations website President and Publisher, Kafumba Kromah has declared his intention to run for President of Minnesota Mandingo Association. He made the announcement today in Minneapolis at the MMA General Meeting.
Hon. Kromah, could be a formidable candidate in light of his knowledge about the community. Supporters are urging him to enter the race as soon as possible and if he does, he will bring with him a vast experience in community development. It is not clear at this moment if President Mohamed Dorley will seek second term. If he does, it will be the first in MMA’s history for siting President to seek re-election.
