Shower Praises on George Weah By : Chorphie Charlie 18 August, 2010 Former
UNICEF Ambassador George Manneh Weah, who is also FIFA 1GOAL Ambassador,
has received huge praises for his role in bringing the 2010 World Cup to
Africa. At a special event hosted by South African President Jacob Zuma
recently in South Africa, Ambassador Weah was showered with many praises
and blessing.President Jacob Zuma said that George Weah is a fine gentleman with a bright future. “If there were ten young men with the heart and desires of George Weah, all of Africa will never be the same.” President Zuma gave his blessing to Ambassador Weah “future endeavors and encouraged young Africans to follow his example.” President Zuma said that the “The prospect will be great for our children” if we support African like George Weah. It can be recalled that Geroge Weah was a bid Ambassador for South Africa to host the World Cup. Weah was part of the South African delegation in 2004 in ZURICH, Switzerland, including Nelson Mandela, and “two other Nobel Peace Prize winners -- F.W. de Klerk, the last apartheid-era president, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. ” Upon hearing the announcement that South Africa had won the World Cup, the delegation “erupted in noisy celebrations.” Mandela spoke at the time and said, "My message is that South Africa should accept the result of this vote with humility because we are all equal." Responding to praises from President Zuma and others, at the special event, Ambassador George Weah of Liberia expressed profound gratitude to his elders, and promised that he will continue to seek their wisdom and guardian in his future pursuits. Weah called upon African leaders to do more for soccer and to educate the young people of Africa.
