Criminals Burglarize Ganta Mosque as
Muslims Observe Fast Courtesy: Public Agenda 14 August, 2010 Criminals
have burglarized the central mosque in Ganta City, Nimba County on
Monday of this week, just days before Muslims start their fast in the
holy month of Ramadan. The Chief Imam of the mosque, Imam Alhaji Issah Siaway, displaying three pieces of one-footed shoes and slippers, a knife as items left behind by the criminals, said the criminals entered by way of the fence, thereby using the exposed and idle ladders as a conduit. These items, according to police terminologies, could be termed as Fruit of Crime (FOC). Evidently, it could never have been so easy without the use of the ladders that were loosely lying against the mosques’ fence, one man told this paper. After the successful operations, the criminals forced open the main back door to escape. It can be recalled that Imam Siaway read a memorable prayers during the intercessory service organized by the National Muslim Council and the Liberia Muslim Union for this year’s July 26 celebrations. Imam said the criminals had taken away the only microphone in the mosque used for Azham (calling for prayers), and three big Chinese made fluorescent bulbs that were used for reading. “This is not the first time, it’s the fourth time criminals have barged into our mosque and stole valuable items from us,” the Imam lamented. Well, valuable items when referred to in a mosque or church cannot be as valuable as hundreds of thousands in money’s worth; but valuable to people who are religious and can use the sanctuaries for spiritual literary purposes. The criminals do not believe the old adage: ‘poor like church rat’ or they would not have burglarized a religious edifice during a holy moment like Ramadan or Easter. This paper has learnt that the Imam of the mosque has made an official complaint to the security in Ganta hoping that something hoping that this time something good would come out of police investigations. |
