THE NEED FOR MANDINGO UNITY-my personal advice
to Mandingo Community! By: Sekou Kenneh August 16, 2009 With
my deepest honor and respect, I would like to speak to you about the Dos
and Don’ts of our ethnicity. I am referring to what we should or should
not do as Mandingoes.Let me first start with what we should do. We should always be in the position to defend, protect and preserve our Values, Dignities and Respects. Those are the most important legacies that we inherited from our forefathers. So, we can't afford to lose any of them no matter where we go. Therefore it is imperative for us to know that the only weapon we need for our fight is unity. Now here are things that you should not do: DO NOT DIVIDE YOURSELVES! .... We shouldn't be divided in any shape or form because division is the only impediment to our progress. My message to all of the Mandingo Organizations around the World is that the foundation of your Organizations should be built on Unity. We heard that the QUOIDOUGBONI MANDINGO ASSOCIATION had a day commemorating the lives of 300 Mandingoes who lost their lives in the Quoidougboni area Lofa County, Liberia. I believe that was a good thing on one hand but insufficient on another hand. In my humble opinion, such a great day should have included all Mandingoes/ Mandingo descent and/or Muslim victims of the fourteen-year Liberian civil war. May the souls of all those massacred in Quoidougboni and all faithful departed rest in perfect peace. By simply honoring the lives of 300 Mandingoes in the Quoidougboni area Lofa County would be unfair for the following reasons: 1. It will be condescending and alienating to the Mandingo community in general. 2. It has the propensity of diminishing our unity and also impeding prosperity within our community. 3. It is also unfair to all of our war heroes-dead, or at live. 4. It misrepresents our war casualties to 300 people in Quoidougboni 5. It sends the wrong message to our detractors. Moreover, we must acknowledge the facts that all Mandingoes were victimized one way, or the other throughout the Country. My fellow Mandingoes, let's be considerate and sincere with each other regardless of our place of Origins, Settlements, or Counties. Remember that Unity is the only tool that we can use to pursue our objective. Finally, I suggest that our brothers and sisters in QUOIDOUGBONI consider changing the nomenclature of the Quoidougboni Mandingo Association to one of the followings: 1. Quoidougboni-Support Group. 2. Quoidougboni-Reunion. 3. Union for Quoidougboni-Development. The above names are just recommendations. Any other name you find suitable other than Quoidougboni Mandingo, Association would serve the purpose. May l also recommend that all Quoidougboni members be part of the various Mandingo organizations in their respective States, if there is any and be recognized by the Federation of Liberian Mandingo in the U.S.A (FELMAUSA). I recommend the above because you can't distinguish Liberia Mandingo from Quoidougboni Mandingos. Mandingo is Mandingo. We must collectively discourage division among ourselves. We must be herad and seen together as one body a common identity. Anything short of that will only undermine to our unity and retard our progress. As clearly stated in the Holy Koran, Sura: 5.105 " O you who believe! Guard your own souls: If you follow (right) guidance, no pain (or sorrow) can come to you from those who have lost their way." The story continuous, that is to say, our Guidance in this case is UNITY, please be your Brothers and Sisters keeper. My deepest apology goes to anyone who feels offended, but these are just my honest opinion. Sekou Kenneh Opinion Leader MN WA SALLAMU AN-LAYEKUM The Writer can be contacted @ 612-207-8017
